Good Companions

 A Friend in Need...

...is a friend in deed.

Now I'm not saying plants are people, but it is worth noting that plants do react to stimuli. Known to be that way for millennia, perhaps why the Style, Stamen, and Stigmata are such quintessential entities in the lifecycle of the greenstuff. The bees and the butterflies, moths, birds, and other wise works of nature by instinct know how to live by carrying the propagation through time, creating more fresh buds for the future generations to enjoy. There's frequently an offset that can be handy to learn how to utilise; honey, silk, over abundant flowering, or crafts can be adept from the successes of nature over producing. On to considering my potted container gardens, a theme I find is approaching to bring some intelligence to the aesthetic values sensed upon viewing, working on, or passing by the development.
Regarding my mini orchard exploratory learning programme there has been a certain amount of research on the rest and growing days. I guess there are the well known companion pots; for the kitchen, for a pet, for a memento to a holiday or family abroad, perhaps to support a business you or a friend manages, a chapter of history, a showpiece, or just to look pretty? Theme's it seems could be quite varied. I need my mini orchard to bring in some revenue at some point, I like to think there's a purpose for things in someway and it's more than less of a waste of time. In the first 3 years of setting up a working 1/4 acre investment natural development and outdoor exploration project it's often a quip how tiny things can make such a big difference. The Lavender Mint planted around the edges of the Lavender bushes, they enhance the freshness of each other and compliment each other in colour and scent. The climbing Honeysuckle that has those tasty ruby berries to feed the hungry birds in late summer and keep the wildlife from pecking away at your kitchen Appletini's! Birds singing to my plants is helpful to my thinking, that with the tinkling of windchimes, a place to meditate on college, family, work, big choices to make or just what to cook for dinner. Relationships are important. Vital? Crucial? Or, necessity? Something so tiny can be something so huge too! I'm sure there's many people who understand that, a simple complexity. Like a kiss under the mistletoe from an old friend. Bulbs are good for around dwarfing rootstocks, a spring show of Daffodils sets my mood for the year, watching early bees feeding on crocus flowers part drowsy from a winter hibernation part eager to strengthen from the nectar. For others it may be snowdrops in the snowfall, bluebells along the forest footpath, a hyacinth on the windowsill, there should be something to like.
A companion, is in deed a worthy friend.
